On a recent trip to Target a unique assortment of blind bag figures caught my eye, Godzilla Gashapon figures by Bandai! Looking at the lineup of characters that you might get on the packaging, I decided that I would be happy enough getting any of them that it was worth gambling with my money. I ended up getting \u201cLittle Godzilla\u201d which was actually one of the ones I wanted the most. He\u2019s so cute! And unique, I don\u2019t have Little Godzilla represented in my modest kaiju collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The HG Godzilla Gashapon figures come in a small ball that doubles as a diorama base for the figure you get. One end of the ball twists off and can be inverted and re-connected to the half of the ball that represents the base. Each blind bag comes with a kaiju and some scenery pieces. In the case of Little Godzilla, he comes with some crystals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A bit about Little Godzilla. He first appeared in 1993\u2019s Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II<\/em> as an egg and baby, dubbed Baby Godzilla. In 1994\u2019s Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla<\/em> he has grown into the Little Godzilla we get in this set. In 1995\u2019s Godzilla vs. Destoroyah<\/em> he grows into Godzilla Junior and becomes the new Godzilla by the film\u2019s end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The HG in the branding stands for \u201cHigh Grade\u201d and I feel like the figure stands by that claim. Despite his small size the Little Godzilla is nicely painted and detailed. His green body has a scaly textured hide and three rows of white spikes run down his back. Each digit is tipped with a white claw, his teeth are white too and his mouth is slightly open, revealing a red interior. His big bright eyes are red with black pupils and a bit of white along the edges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Little Godzilla is stoutly built, with a cute chunky body and chubby skin folds are sculpted around his neck and leg joints. Even his ears and nostrils are discernable. He is positively adorable! Little Godzilla stands on a brown earthen base and translucent crystal clusters fit into pegs along the edge of the base. The entire diorama stands about 2.75\u201d (6.99 cm) tall and Little Godzilla stands 1.75\u201d (4.4 cm) tall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The quality of this diorama is more than enough to convince me that these blind bags as a whole are worth seeking out. Despite its small size the figure is meticulously detailed, and the paint application is precise. If I get another one of these blind bags, I\u2019m hoping to end up with Biollante or Kiru (Mechagodzilla), but they all look excellent. \u00a0This figure comes from the first wave, and I see online that there\u2019s already a second wave out. I found mine at Target on an endcap near the Mattel Jurassic World<\/em> toys but they\u2019re widely available online too, for about $7.99. For me, being able to find these in a store was a very exciting experience!<\/p>\n\n\n
